New Jersey is a state that has always punched above its weight - the crossroads of the revolution, the diner capital of the world, home to Tony Soprano.
But its state flag is a different story...
It is by no means the worst flag in the union (there are plenty of contenders), but it is forgettable at best.
The proposal: Change the NJ State flag to the "Shoreline Tri-color"
Designed by three New Jersey natives, this design takes inspiration from an aerial shot of the shore (such as Island Beach State Park pictured below). The flag incorporate the official state colors of buff and blue while adding a Garden State green on the left.
The center emblem calls back to the existing flag and state seal - a silhouette of a plow with three stars represents NJ's revolutionary roots as the third state to ratify the constitution.
